Moonsorrow is a folk metal band formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1995. The group’s earliest formation consisted of cousins Ville Sorvali (vocals and bass) and Henri Sorvali (guitar and keyboards) who released various demos that were much more characteristic as being symphonic black metal, musically, than future releases.

Their debut album, Suden Uni, recorded in the early 2000, was released in 2001, along with Tämä Ikuinen Talvi (This Everlasting Winter), a re-release of the 1999 demo. Suden Uni (translated as “A Wolf’s Dream”) was acclaimed by the fans and the reviews with its epic combination of Finnish paganism and folk elements.

After recruiting Mitja Harvilahti, Marko ‘Baron’ Tarvonen and Markus ‘Lord’ Eurén, Moonsorrow started their first shows, releasing Voimasta ja Kunniasta (Of Strength and Honour) in the late 2001.

But the real takeoff for the band was the 2003 release Kivenkantaja (Stonebearer). In 2005 the band released their fifth album, Verisäkeet (Blood Verses) and it’s stated to be their darkest album yet.

Viides Luku – Hävitetty (Fifth Chapter: Ravaged) was released in January 2007. The album contains only 2 tracks, but with both having lengths of over 25 minutes each.

Come 2008, Moonsorrow has now completed an EP called Tulimyrsky (Firestorm), released on April 30. It features two covers, an original song, and two remakes of older (pre-Suden Uni) material.

Moonsorrow 1995 yılının sonlarına doğru, Henri ve Ville Sorvali adında iki kuzenin folklorik epik metal müzik yaratma fikriyle başladı. İlk demoları Thorns of Ice 1996’nın sonlarına doğru kaydedildi ancak metaryelin yarısı talihsiz bir şekilde kaybolduğu için kaset hiçbir zaman yayınlanamadı.

Marko Tarvonen gruba üçüncü eleman olarak katıldı ve Moonsorrow artık debut albümlerini kayıta sokmaya hazırdı. Böylece debut albümleri Şubat 2000’de piyasaya sürüldü. Bu süre zarfında gruba Mitja Harvilahti ve Markus Eurén de katıldı ve grup artık canlı sahne şovları için hazırdı.

2001 yazında Suden Uni albümleri piyasaya çıktı ve Moonsorrow aynı yıl Spikefarm şirketiyle yeni bir anlaşma imzalayarak Voimasta ja Kunniasta albümünü çıkardılar. Aynı zamanda Sagitarus Şirketi Tämä Ikuinen Talvi on’u cd formatıyla yeniden piyasaya sürdü ve büyük satış rakamlarına ulaştı. Grup buradan esinlenerek 2002 yılında hayranlarına Metsä albümünü ücretsiz indirme şansı verdi.

Grup 2002’nin sonlarına doğru Kivenkantaja’yı kaydetti ve 2003’ün ilk haftası Finlandiya listelerinde 16. sıraya kadar yükseldi. Moonsorrow bu aşamadan sonra 2005’e kadar yeni albüm çıkarmama kararı aldı. 2003’ün sonlarına doğru debut albümlerini bir adet bonus şarkı ve bonus dvd ile yeniden piyasaya sürdüler.

2004’te Moonsorrow canlı sahne performanslarıyla güçlenerek geri döndü ve Hırvasitan’da vererek ilk yurtdışı konserlerini de vermiş oldular. Grup yaz boyunca topladıkları yeni metaryellerle Verisäkeet’i kaydetmek için stüdyoya girdi ve bu noktada hayranlarından gelen sevinç reaksiyonlarını gözardı etmek mümkün değildi.

Verisäkeet albümü Şubat 2005’de tüm dünyada piyasaya sürüldü.

Ortalama yarım saat süren iki şarkıdan oluşan bir sonraki albümleri ise Ocak 2007 tarihli V: Hävitetty oldu.

Grup 2008 yılında Tulimyrsky (Firestorm) adını verdikleri bir EP yayımladı. Bu EP’de Taistelu Pohjolasta ve Hvergelmir şarkılarının yeni versiyonlarının yanı sıra yeni bir şarkı da bulunuyor.

Eluveitie (pronounced El-Vey-Ti) is a folk metal band from Switzerland. Their sound can be described as Celtic folk metal with melodic death metal influences. The band formed in 2002 and their first EP, Vên came out in 2003. The band then released a full length album, Spirit. In November 2007, Eluveitie was signed by Nuclear Blast. The first product of the collaboration, Slania, was released in February 2008. The album peaked at number 35 in the Swiss charts and number 98 in the German charts.

One of Eluveitie’s two largest draws is their liberal, virtuosic use of traditional instruments amidst guitars and Chrigel’s wide ranging, emotional screams. The other is their lyrics; instead of any of the languages currently spoken in their home country, the screams, clean vocals, and occasional spoken word parts are often in the extinct language Gaulish. Eluveitie is Etruscan for “the Helvetian”, referring to an inscription dating to the earliest record of the Celtic Helvetii tribe from what is now Switzerland.

Eluveitie Etrüskçe’de “Helvetyalı” demek, bugün İsviçre olan yerdeki en eski Kelt topluluğunun adından gelmekte.

Bukkene Bruse is a Norwegian musical group, focusing on a varied repertoire of traditional and folk-style Norwegian songs, but also including many new compositions based on various Norwegian musical traditions. The members of the group include Annbjørg Lien, a prominent Hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle) player; Arve Moen Bergset, fiddle player and vocalist; flutist Steinar Ofsdal; and pipe organist Bjørn Ole Rasch. The name of the group is taken from the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff (Norwegian: De tre bukkene Bruse).

The group was formed in 1988 in Norway and has travelled and has performed widely in Scandinavia and elsewhere. They were selected as official Olympic Musicians for the Lillehammer Olympic Games and performed at the closing ceremony.

Burzum is the musical project by Varg Vikernes (under the pseudonym “Count Grishnackh”). It began during 1991 in Bergen, Norway and quickly became prominent within the early Norwegian black metal scene. During 1992 and 1993, Burzum recorded four albums; however, in 1993 Vikernes was convicted and imprisoned for the murder of guitarist Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth and the arson of several churches. While imprisoned, Vikernes has recorded two albums in the dark ambient style. On 30 March 2009, Vikernes was released on parole.

Triakel is a Swedish folk band. They mostly perform old Swedish folk songs, particularly those from the Jämtland area, but also include songs by contemporary folk artists.

Triakel was founded in 1995 by Emma Härdelin (Garmarna), Kjell-Erik Eriksson (Hoven Droven) and Janne Strömstedt (former Hoven Droven member); Eriksson and Strömstedt had to perform together using only the fiddle and harmonium at New Year’s Eve 1994 following a lost bet, and the performance was so successful that they decided to continue with the project. Härdelin later on joined the newly-formed band as the singer, and the name “Triakel” (a kind of sweet, black liquorice in the Swedish dialect of Jämtland) was chosen after a long discussion.

Fejd formed in 2001 through a fusion of the folk music duo Rimmerfors and a couple of members from the metal band Pathos. Rimmerfors played folk music with medieval undertones, performing on contemporary instruments, and together with their childhood friends of Pathos, the transformed into a refined band with the best of both worlds – the feeling of metal in symbiosis with the sound, the melodic language and sadness of the nordic folk music.

The brothers interest in swedish medieval folk music started back in 1995, commenced by music studying and the feeling of wanting to explore new musical ground and try something new. The brothers musical background, as well as their band mates, has its roots in heavy metal music. Inspiration is also drawn from like-minded bands such as Garmarna and Hedningarna.

In addition to Fejd, the brothers Rimmerfors still performs every now and then as an acoustic duo.

Folkearth is an international music project created in 2003 by musicians playing folk and viking metal. The name (folk + earth) symbolizes musicians from all over the world playing folk music. So far, a total of six full-length albums have been released. The band started in 2003 as an idea of Ruslanas from Lithuania, who sent the idea to his friendly bands. Because of the musical project’s complex structure, Folkearth has not performed live, and it’s unlikely they will perform live in the future. The music Folkearth makes is regular folk/Viking metal, while they incorporate a diverse selection of folk instruments, such as lute, nyckelharpa, shawm, saz and many others. Because of the nature of this project, Folkearth albums are inconsistent, and sound rather like compilations and the musical style varies from one track to another. Some tracks, especially in recent albums, are closely related to black metal. The lyrics are all written in English with the exception of “Gryningssång”. The main topic of Folkearth’s lyrics are ancient history, beliefs, and mythology, especially Norse mythology. Celtic mythology and Greek mythology are also present in Folkearth’s lyrics. Folkearth’s songs tell stories and their purpose is to entertain, not to carry a symbolic or personal message.

Farklı ülkelerden katılan geniş bir müzisyen kadrosuna sahip Folk/Viking metal grubudur. Kurulduğu 2003 yılından bu yana 6 tane albüm çıkarmış olup, canlı performans sergilememişlerdir. Grubun çok uluslu ve kalabalık yapısından dolayı da canlı performans sergilemeleri beklenmemektedir. Grubun kullandığı çalgılar müzisyenlerin kültürlerine göre değişse de genellikle grubun tarzı belli olup, daha çok şarkıdan şarkıya değişmektedir. Özellikle son albümlere doğru daha fazla Black Metal havası hissedilmekte. Şarkı sözleri neredeyse tamamen İngilizce ve eski tarih, mitoloji, İskandinav mitolojisi hakkında. Bazı şarkılarda Kelt ve Yunan mitolojisi ile ilgili sözler de yer alır.

TrollfesT are a band consisting of four Norwegian trolls, who have created a unique brand of folk metal which provides the perfect soundtrack to a drinking party. Their music incorporates over thirty different traditional instruments and is heavily influenced by bands like Finntroll and Korpiklaani.

Released a promo in 2004, and followed with a full-length album in 2005, called “Willkommen Folk Tell Drekka Fest!!” Their second album is called “Brakebein” (2006). “Villanden” is the bands latest album, and was released by Twilight-Vertrieb January 9th 2009. The band performed at the 2007 Barther Metal Openair festival in Germany, which was their first ever live appearance.

Most of Trollfest’s lyrics are written in the fictional “Trollspråk”, which is a mixture of Norwegian and German.
